We make apps that let anyone create music through a process of play and discovery.
Gil Carmel founded Tin Pan to explore his love for music, design, and technology. Previously, Gil was a mobile programmer for 2D BOY (World of Goo), Smule (Autorap, Songify, Magic Piano), and Tomorrow Corporation (Little Inferno), among others. In 2014, he was joined by Ted Masur, a film composer and music educator, and Chris Paniati, an interaction designer.Evolution
Tin Pan's original goal was to teach music theory through games. Early app prototypes revealed that more than any linear curriculum, folks simply enjoyed playing and jamming, and that often the best way to learn about music is to dive in and start making music. As a result, Tin Pan shifted towards more playful experiences that let anyone create music and absorb musical concepts along the way.Rhythm
Tin Pan's debut app, Tin Pan Rhythm, helps you bring song ideas to life by composing and arranging short musical phrases. You can use your creations as inspiration for songs, practice loops for real-life instruments, source audio for other music apps, or even as instrumental background music. The minimalist user interface and acoustic sound palette is designed to encourage curiosity and to emphasize music, not technology. A brief tutorial shows you the ropes (first, you drag chords to define a chord progression; then you create an arrangement by choosing instruments, rhythms, and pitches), then sets you loose to experiment on your own. Tin Pan is slated for release in May, 2015.
